EU says only dialogue is the solution for peace in Mali

EU High Representative Catherine Ashton Friday expressed concern about recent military developments that took place in the locality of Anefis in northern Mali.

In a statement, she urged all armed groups for restraint so as not to undermine the dialogue promises between the Government of Mali and representatives of non-terrorist and non-criminal armed groups who have recognized the unity and territorial integrity of Mali.

Ashton stressed that only dialogue can create the conditions for lasting peace in Mali.

Furthermore, she noted with great concern the allegations of violence against civilian populations, including racially motivated violence, in Mali.

All these claims will be subject to investigation and appropriate action, she stressed.
