Turkish FM makes statement on foreign media coverage of protests

Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu has sent a clear message to the foreign media about the coverage of the protests in Gezi Park in Istanbul’s Taksim square.

In his statement Davutoglu noted that some circles were worried by Turkey’s progress and said:

“Given centers in the foreign media want Turkey’s prestige marred.”

The Turkish foreign minister reminded that in the recent years events similar to the ones in Taksim square had taken place in different capitals in Europe and in the U.S. and they had been covered in the foreign media in “a normal way, i.e. as a normal process.”

“The way the current events in Turkey are represented is different. It is not normal – you have to be blind not to notice the difference,” said Davutoglu.
