Turkish leaders meeting on Egypt was delayed

The meeting between Turkish president Abdullah Gül, Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu, was delayed. It is scheduled to take place on Thursday at the Turkish capital, Ankara.

Mohamed Abdel Kader, an expert on Turkish affairs at the Ahram Center for Political and Strategic studies, said that a political and a diplomatic escalation between Egypt and Turkey is expected after the meeting, adding that Turkey fears the collapse of its regional project in the Middle East with the fall of the Muslim Brotherhood regime in Egypt. It also fears the military intervention in the Egyptian political process and the probability of a similar action in Turkey.

Relations between the two countries are worsening after the ousting of former president Mohamed Morsi.
