German, Russian FMs discuss Ukraine’s political unrest

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and his German counterpart Frank-Walter Steinmeier met on Friday in Moscow where they discussed Ukraine’s political situation.

Lavrov has said the EU is trying to create a “sphere of influence” by pressing Ukraine to choose closer ties with the EU over Russia. Adding that this fact is “obvious” it can’t be hidden by diplomatic rhetoric.

German FM Steinmeier appeared to agree, stressing that Ukraine should not be seen as a “geopolitical chess game.”

He underlined that Ukrainians should find a political solution on their own.
