The Turkish government welcomed Tuesday Iraq’s advancement to the phase of forming a government.
Iraqi President Fuad Massoum’s commissioning to form a government in the country is “an important and positive step,” Turkish foreign ministry said in a statement, wishing Massoum success during this “difficult task,” especially in light of current circumstances in the country.
The Turkish government also stressed importance of ethnic diversity in the next Iraqi government, representing all groups of the Iraqi society, adding that Ankara believed continuation of the political process in Baghdad a guarantee for solving the country’s security crisis.
The statement also called on all Iraqi politicians to work together in order to establish a national consensus and support the formation of a new government, noting that Turkey, as has always been, supports the Iraqi people and democratic power.
