The EU Foreign Affairs Council Monday called on the EU foreign services, known as the European External Action Service, and the European Commission to present a proposal for decision by the end of this month on additional sanctions targeting separatists in Eastern Ukraine.
The Council which in meeting in Brussels today said it will continue to closely follow the situation on the ground and will act accordingly.
The Council expressed its great concern about the “very worrying developments in eastern Ukraine and on the Crimean peninsula, particularly the continuing persecution and intimidation of the Crimean Tatar community.” The Council reiterated its policy of non-recognition of the illegal annexation of Crimea and Sevastopol.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin met here today EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini and discussed the latest developments in Ukraine.
