Algerian Minister for Maghreb and African Affairs Abdelkader Messahel said on Tuesday that the Libyan parties were unanimous in stressing the need to form a national unity government, which will allow Libya to begin a new era.
“There’s a consensus on the need to form a national unity government and rehabilitate the militias, which should be reintegrated into political and military life,” Messahel to the press at the end of the 2nd round of Inter-Libyan Dialogue, adding that “this would allow Libya to begin a new era.”
“The objective of Algiers meeting is to lead to the formation of this government, which will represent the State and whose prerogatives are currently being debated,” Messahel added.
The minister underlined that the formation of a national unity government would help to fight efficiently against terrorism, recalling the existence of “an international consensus on the political resolution of the Libyan crisis.”
“The Libyan crisis will be resolved through political means to reach a peaceful solution based on dialogue with the participation of all Libyan parties,” he said.
