(RTTNews) – Egypt has strongly condemned a Sunday meeting of four US members of Congress and the head of the Muslim Brotherhood’s bloc in Parliament, accusing the US of adopting double standards while meeting with the banned Egyptian group but at the same time refusing to meet with the militant Palestinian group Hamas.
The congressional delegation, headed by North Carolina Democrat David Price met in Parliament with a group of lawmakers that included the Brotherhood’s Mohammed Saad el-Katatni.
Spokesman for Mubarak Suleiman Awaad said that the US claims that it doesn’t establish relations with a banned group, whether in Egypt or outside Egypt but at the same time it defends its meeting with the Brotherhood in their capacity as Parliament members, but it doesn’t make the same distinction and refuses to talk with the democratically elected Hamas-led Palestinian government.
Neither the US Embassy in Cairo nor the congressional delegation has commented on the issue.
