During a debate held Tuesday at the National Assembly on the bill on ratification of the defence cooperation treaty between France and Mali, François Loncle (Socialist Party) stressed that peace in northern Mali “particularly interests the Algerian government.”
“As for Algeria’s involvement in the peace process in Mali, the Agreement between the Malian government and rebels was inked in Algiers. Besides, Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Ramtane Lamamra is resolutely committed to resolve this issue,” the French MP stated in a response to a question asked by MP Jean-Pierre Dufau.
Speaking on behalf of the Foreign Affairs Commission, Loncle affirmed that this Agreement, snatched on 20 June 2015, is the result of intense efforts made by the international mediation led by Algeria and made up of the United Nations (UN), the European Union (EU) and France.”
