Afghanistan, Pakistan to discuss peace on sidelines of UN meeting

The foreign ministers of Afghanistan and Pakistan will meet on the sidelines of the United Nations meeting in New York within the next two weeks, the Afghan Foreign Ministry confirmed on Thursday.
Pakistani Foreign Minister Khwaja Asif and the acting foreign minister of Afghanistan, Salahuddin Rabbani, discussed the upcoming meeting in a phone call on Wednesday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) said.
Asif has said that his country is ready to help Afghanistan bring peace.
“The context of this phone call was a greeting because the foreign minister of Pakistan has newly taken office. The two foreign ministers will meet each other during the New York trip,” said Sebghatullah Ahmad, a spokesman for MoFA. “Pakistanis said they are ready to help bring peace to Afghanistan and we hope that this issue is practical this time,” he added.
