Iranian FM Meets Romanian Counterpart

Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki met his Romanian counterpart Adrian Cioroianu on the sidelines of the 62nd annual meeting of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. During the meeting, Mottaki noted the two countries’ historical ties, and said, “Given the two countries’ potentials, they can take longer strides to further develop their relations.”

He also pointed to Iran’s economic relations with Europe, and said, “Iran’s economic exchanges with Europe, which amount to USD 30 to 35 bln, are centered on a few countries and we seek to expand ties with the entire Europe.”

“In the same line, we will embark on regulating our economic ties after identifying the potentials of European countries,” the Iranian minister said.

For his part, the Romanian foreign minister referred to the two countries’ good ties, and voiced his country’s preparedness to expand all-out relations with Iran, in economic grounds in particular.

“We are a European country but we are Iran’s friend and we seek to develop our relations with Iran,” he stressed.
