Iran: Mideast Peace Conference Aimed at Saving Israel

A0090568101.jpgSupreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei termed the forthcoming Middle East peace conference an effort by the United States to save Israel, rather than to bring peace to the Palestinian Territories.“When Palestinians consider this conference as deceitful and refuse to participate, how can Muslim countries take part in that?” Ayatollah Khamenei said at the Eid al-Fitr prayers ceremony – marking the end of the fasting month of Ramadan – which was attended by tens of thousands of Iranian worshippers in the capital Tehran.

The Leader was referring to the conference which is reportedly to be held next month in Annapolis, Maryland, with the so-called aim of enabling a peace accord between the Israelis and Palestinians.

The Leader urged Muslim countries to boycott the US-sponsored conference, saying, “Other (Muslim) countries also should consider it a deceitful conference.”

“This so-called peace conference is another imposition on Palestine… the US initiative is an effort to save the Zionist regime (Israel) from collapse rather than bringing peace to Palestine,” he added.

Ayatollah Khamenei said all Middle East peace plans initiated by the West have so far failed and predicted the same fate for the upcoming conference.

“Palestine should solely be saved by Palestinians themselves and the Islamic world has the duty to support them,” he said while rejecting any Western interference.

The Supreme Leader also held the United States and its western allies responsible for the ongoing insecurity and “blind terrorism” in Iraq.

“The occupiers of Iraq are the ones to be blamed for the insecurity in Iraq. They are not capable or they do not want to establish security in Iraq,” he said.

“America and its allies are responsible for … human and political catastrophe in Iraq,” he said.
