EU President visited Romania and Bulgaria

Herman van Rompuy, the President of the European Council, paid a one-day visit to Romania and Bulgaria.

In Romania, Rompuy met the President Traian Băsescu, the Prime Minister Mihai-Răzvan Ungureanu and spoke in front of the Romanian Parliament where he stated that ‘Nationalist and extremist movements are on the rise; many of them blame “Brussels” for bad news’, as well as that ‘Regrettably, the winds of populism are affecting a key achievement of European integration: the free movement of persons within our borders, with respect for the conditions’.
