TEHRAN (Fars News Agency)- First Vice President Parviz Davoodi called for the immediate release of the two Iranian diplomats who have been arrested by the US military troops while on an official visit to Iraq.
According to a statement released by the Presidential Press Office, Davoodi made the remarks in a meeting with the Iraqi Finance Minister Bayan Jabr here on Tuesday.
During the meeting, the Iranian official criticized the US for having kidnapped two Iranian diplomats who were guests of the Iraqi president, and reminded that the measure is a violation of the international rules and regulations.
He also demanded the immediate release of the two Iranian nationals with the help of Iraqi government.
The first vice president further viewed presence of the occupying troops as the main contributor to instability and insecurities in Iraq, which pursues to cause discord among the Iraqi people, stressing that mutual cooperation and consolidated relations of the regional Muslim countries, notably the two friendly and Muslim states of Iran and Iraq, can defuse plots hatched by the enemies of the two nations.
Elsewhere, he noted the two countries’ cordial, historical and brotherly ties and voiced Iran’s readiness to contribute to development and reconstruction of Iraq.
For his part, Iraqi Finance Minister Bayan Jabr pointed to the developing ties between the two nations, and welcomed expansion of mutual relations.
He also appreciated Iran’s non-stop assistance and support for the promotion of Tehran-Baghdad ties as well as Iraq’s reconstruction.
To conclude his remarks, the Iraqi official expressed regret over the kidnapping of the two Iranian nationals by the US troops in Iraq and stressed his government’s all-out efforts to set the two diplomats free.
