Iran’s foreign ministry spokesman here on Saturday strongly condemned the terrorist blast in the Iraqi city of Karbala, which killed and wounded a number of innocent civilians and pilgrims, and described it as a criminal act in violation of the divine and Islamic values. According to a statement released by the Foreign Ministry’s Information and Press Bureau, Seyed Mohammad Ali Hosseini further voiced sympathy for the Iraqi nation and government.
“Targeting the innocent civilians and ordinary pilgrims at holy places of the sacred Karbala is a suspicious and sinister act conducted by the mercenary agents affiliated to the alien organs which seek to sow discord (among the Iraqi nation and Muslims),” he said, adding that the measure is aimed at striking a blow at Muslim unity and Islamic sanctities.
The spokesman further viewed vigilance, solidarity, unity and coordination of all Iraqi groups and people from different walks of life for the attainment of national interests and withdrawal of foreign occupiers as a proper approach towards such hostile measures.
