Aliyev: Baku Needs Tehran’s Support

A0090568123.jpgAzerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev called for Tehran’s continued support for Baku in all the various grounds. Speaking during a meeting with Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on the sidelines of the second summit of the Caspian Sea Littoral States here in Tehran on Tuesday, Aliyev noted that enemies strive to obstruct friendly relations between Tehran and Baku.

“Today progress and security of the republic of Azerbaijan is the progress and security of the Islamic Republic of Iran,” he said, adding, “and Iran’s progresses are also at the service of the Azeri people.”

Aliyev further viewed the Caspian Sea issues as important, reminding that the sea is a bridge linking the littoral states.

He appreciated Iran for hosting the second summit of the heads of Caspian Sea littoral states, and said, “Caspian Sea is among the most important regional issues and its littoral states can achieve significant agreements through cooperation.”

Aliyev noted the common views of Iran and Azerbaijan and their mutual support in dealing with regional and international issues, and stressed, “Enemies intend to damage the two states’ cordial ties, but the ongoing expansion of Tehran-Baku mutual relations reveals that they have failed in doing do.”

He also pointed to the ample potentials existing for the further development of Tehran-Baku ties, and pointed out that his country can link Iran and Russia’s energy lines.
