Leader urges active participation in legislative elections

Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei has called for the full participation of Iranians in the parliamentary elections, advising them to choose the most qualified nominees with careful attention.

“Great participation of people in the eighth Majlis elections is of high importance. Another issue which is very important is being careful in choosing the most qualified candidate,” Ayatollah Khamenei told a local gathering in the central city of Yazd on Wednesday.

“The eighth Majlis elections is the most important event of the year” and a great opportunity to show the determination and wisdom of the Iranian nation, noted the Supreme Leader.

The Interior Ministry has set March 14 as the election date for parliamentary elections.

Ayatollah Khamenei stated that the Guardian Council confirms the qualification of a variety of nominees, however, people should vote for the most devout and honest candidates who understand people’s needs.

He warned politicians against undermining the credibility of rivals and insulting and smearing them.

“I urge and insist that supporters of different candidates only promote their favorite nominees” and avoid defaming others.

He described “national self-confidence” as the cause of Iran’s accomplishments in different arenas, saying, “The great nation of Iran is on the path of achieving its main objective which is creating an Islamic society and walking this glorious path is not possible without national self-confidence.”

The Supreme Leader criticized liberal democracy for failing to handle moral, sexual, familial, and economic crises in the Western society, saying, “These tensions show that scientific and secular development… will not bring tranquility and true felicity to mankind.”
