President puts Shahid Rajaee Port development plan into effect

The first phase of Shahid Rajaee Port (Hormozgan Province) development plan officially came on stream on Wednesday in the presence of President Ahmadinejad and a number of officials.

“Hormozgan enjoys notable potentialities to be turned into one of the world’s largest shipping ports,” the President said adding that the government is determined to ease the customs regulations in order to develop the port transactions.

The container transportation capacity of the Port has increased from 1.8 million TEU to 3 million TEU, the director general of the Ports and Shipping Department of Hormozgan Province stated.

“The second phase of the development plan is underway augmenting the transportation capacity to six million TEU,” Mohammad-Reza Ashkriz said and added that some 310 million euros plus two trillion rials has been earmarked for the second development phase.
