Serb President’s Trip to Kosovo ‘Only Religious’

resizer66Serbian President Boris Tadic’s visit to Kosovo over the weekend should be viewed as a private religious visit by a Serbian citizen, argues the speaker of Kosovo’s Assembly, Jakup Krasniqi.

Tadic entered Kosovo on Friday after initially requesting a visit from the European Union office in Belgrade, in order to visit the Decani Monastery in Kosovo over the Orthodox Easter weekend.

Until now, all Serbian officials that opted to not request visiting permits from Kosovo’s authorities were turned away at the border and not allowed entry into the country.

However, Krasniqi admitted that the process of approving Tadic’s visit was coordinated by the international community in Kosovo, after returning to Kosovo from Slovenia on Sunday.

Krasniqi also said that if any laws were broken because of Tadic’s visit, the responsibilities would lie in the executive branch of the government.

Kosovo’s President, Fatmir Sejdiu did not release any statement regarding Tadic’s visit, choosing to remain silent instead.
