Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping met Mircea Geoana, the president of Romania’s senate here Wednesday.

Xi pledged to step up cooperation and boost ties.

Xi hailed the traditional relationship and the development of bilateral ties since the two states established diplomatic relations 60 years ago.

He recalled Chinese President Hu Jintao’s meeting with his Romanian counterpart Traian Basescu on the sidelines of the Beijing Olympics 2008 and appreciated Romania’s support on the wake of last year’s devastating earthquake in southwest China.

There’s no unsettled problem in the Chinese-Romanian relations, Xi said.

Geoana said Romania takes its relations with China as a priority and will enhance coordination and contact with China on international and regional affairs.

Romania will stick to the one-China policy and push forward the development of ties, he said.
