The campaign for the first Kosovo local elections since the province unilaterally declared independence in February last year will begin on November 15.
74 parties, coalitions and citizens’ movements are taking part in the ballot. They include 37 Kosovo Albanian and 21 Serb lists.
The other lists were entered by the other minority communities. Politicians say that all preparations have been made for the election campaign.
Almost all the Kosovo Albanian parties have chosen to start their campaigns in Priština. The Kosovo Serbs will start their pre-election activities in Gračanica and surrounding villages.
Local elections will be held in 36 municipalities in Kosovo, including the three municipalities of Gračanica, Ranilug and Klokot, where Serbs make up the majority population. Elections in Parfteš and northern Kosovska Mitrovica, where Serbs are also the majority population, will be held in six months’ time.
