SPC to appoint new Patriarch in January

img96Serbian Orthodox Church will choose new Patriarch on January 22 next year, church’s Holy Synod said.

Serbian Orthodox Church didn’t give any details, but said that the new Patriarch has to be chosen by February 15 the latest.

However, it is already known who of the bishops shall get the largest number of voters after the first round of voting. These bishops are Vasilije (of Zvornik and Tuzla), Amfilohije (Montenegro and the Coast), Irinej (of Backa) and Grigorije (Zahumlje and Herzegovina).

Patriarch Pavle, 95, died in Belgrade’s Military Hospital where he had been treated since 2007 for various ailments. /
