Egyptian Minister of Foreign Minister Gheit: We hope Macedonia to solve name dispute with Greece

We hope that with the help of EU, UN and USA you will find an acceptable name solution in the name dispute with Greece.

Egyptian Minister of Foreign Minister Ahmed Aboul Gheit made the remarks following the meeting with his counterpart Macedonian FM Antonio Milososki.

“We understand that name dispute is an obstacle for Macedonia’s EU integration as well as an obstacle in the relations with the neighboring countries, precisely Greece. We will consulate with our Greek friends on Macedonia’s issue. We hope that representatives of EU, UN and USA will help in finding a compromise, acceptable for the two countries”, Minister Gheit said.

The two ministers discussed name issue during their meeting. After the meeting FM Milososki once more repeated that Macedonia expects EU’s greater efforts in finding name settlement.

“It’s in our interest to find name solution soon. It’s in EU’s interest to start accession talks with Macedonia soon. It’s in Greece’s interest to support EU integration process instead of blocking it. In this moment we wouldn’t mind greater attention by the authorities representing EU”, FM Milososki said.

The two ministers Milososki and Gheit have signed a cooperation agreement between the two countries. They pointed out that they will initiate signing an agreement for avoiding double taxes and protection of investments between the two countries in order to improve the economic cooperation.
