Romania supports the territorial integrity and independence of Georgia, Romanian Foreign Minister Teodor Baconsky said at a joint press conference with his Georgian counterpart Grigol Vashadze in Tbilisi today.
“Georgia has chosen the way to integrate into the European Union. We are now pending free trade agreements and preferential visa regime, which should be signed soon,” Romanian Minister said.
He stressed that Georgia has clear and real reforms. Their implementation will lead to integration in Europe. “Getting a free trade regime will be major help for Georgia in its relations with the EU countries”, Baconsky said.
In his turn, Vashadze stressed that Georgia has the potential of cooperation with Romania, and especially in the trade sphere. “This potential is not fully used, as trade relations between our countries are not so strong as we would like to have,” he said.
He stressed that this issue must be solved to intensify trade relations.
Ministers stressed that a decision was made to open departments of the Georgian and Romanian languages in high schools of Tbilisi and Bucharest in the interest of strengthening the relations between the Romanian and Georgian peoples.
Baconsky stressed that Georgia’s president will visit Romania soon. It will give new impetus to bilateral relations.
