NATO Chief meets Greek Defence Minister

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg met here on Wednesday the new Greek Minister of Defence Panos Kammenos and thanked Greece for its continued commitment to the 28-member alliance. He stressed that Greece has contributed substantially to NATO for over six decades and said he counts on the steadfast commitment of Greece to NATO, according to Carmen Romero deputy NATO spokesperson.
The spokesperson said Stoltenberg told Kammenos “that this is a challenging time both for Greece and NATO and that only together as an Alliance we can deal with the complex challenges and threats we face to the east and to the south.”
They also discussed the meeting that NATO Defence Ministers will hold tomorrow Thursday in Brussels. The NATO chief briefed the Greek Minister on the agenda of that meeting, in which important decisions will be taken. The NATO Secretary General said he understands the reasons for which the Greek Minister won’t be able to attend the defence ministers meeting since the Greek Government will be sworn in tomorrow in Athens, added Romero.
Kammenos, the leader of the right-wing nationalist Independent Greeks party, formed a coalition government with the leftist Syriza party of Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras.
