Over 100 Boko Haram militants were killed in an attack against the barracks of the Nigerian army in Goniri area of Yobe state early Wednesday, a military spokesman said.
Seven soldiers were killed while nine others were wounded in the attack, Colonel Sani Usman said.
“On the last count more than 100 terrorist bodies were seen, unfortunately however, seven of our brave soldiers paid the ultimate price while defending our country, while an officer and eight soldiers were wounded in action” he said.
Machine guns, AK-47 rifles and rocket-propelled grenades were recovered from the militants.
Meanwhile, at least 16 people died after two suicide bombers attacked a housing estate in north-eastern Nigeria, on Wednesday, the head of emergency services in the region said.
The attack took place at the Buhari estate in the city of Damaturu, also in Yobe state, Alhaji Idi Musa told dpa.
“Two teenage bombers were involved in the explosion Buhari property where about 16 people were killed in both places hit this morning,” he said.
The 16 dead include two teenage suicide bombers.
