Libya PM in Cairo to discuss Skhirat Agreement

CAIRO: Libyan Prime Minister of the National Accord Government Fayez al-Siraj arrived in Egypt Saturday night to discuss the Skhirat Agreement, Youm7 reported.
The agreement provides for forming the National Accord Government headquartered in Tripoli to defeat the Libyan branch of the Islamic State group and all groups that pledged allegiance for it.
Siraj will stay in Cairo for several days to meet with a number of officials over means to implement the agreement, which was signed in Morocco Dec. 17.
Meanwhile, Egypt, which shares a 1,000-kilometer border with Libya, is preparing for an international conference for the reconstruction of its western neighbor.
“Egypt will be an active player and will participate with full force in the reconstruction of Libya and reforming the country’s economy and derivatives. It might also host the conference,” Assistant Foreign Minister for Neighboring Countries’ Affairs Osama el Magdoub was quoted by Youm7 Jan. 22.
No date has been set for the conference yet, Osama said, adding that consultations with the states concerned are underway. A number of countries, including Italy, expressed enthusiasm to participate in the conference, he added.
The U.N. has called on Libya’s internationally-recognized parliament to endorse the new unity government which was formed Tuesday. The new government must be approved by at least two thirds of the parliament members within 10 days starting from the day it was officially formed.
