Tunisia pledges to push for Libya peace

Tunisia is committed to safeguarding the unity of Libya and restoring its security and stability, Foreign Minister Khemaies Jhinaoui Saturday told his opposite numbers at an Arab Summit preparatory meeting in Nouakchott, Mauritania.
He also reiterated support to Fayaz Seraj’s Government of National Accord and said Tunisia urges stakeholders to carry on dialogue to arrive at a political solution. Tunisia unfailingly supports the just Palestinian cause and the rights of the Palestinian people, the FM further said. He likewise reminded of Tunisia’s positions as regards Arab issues and its conception of a stronger joint action in the service of Arab peoples.
The preparatory meeting looked at a series of draft political, economic, social and development resolutions that will be submitted to the Summit.
The FM had talks, on the sidelines of the meeting, with the Secretary-General of the Arab League and some of his counterparts. Items on the Summit’s agenda, bilateral relations and regional and international issues of common interest took centre stage.
Besides, Khemaies Jhinaoui attended the meeting of the Decisions Follow-up Committee as Tunisia expressed readiness to chair the 146th session of the Arab Foreign Ministers’ Council starting from September 2016.
The Foreign Minister was tasked by President Beji Caid Essebsi with leading the Tunisian delegation to the 27th Arab Summit set for July 25-26 in Mauritania.
