Al-Aqsa in danger, the world must intervene before it’s too late, says Jerusalem Governorate

The Palestinian-run Jerusalem Governorate has warned that Al-Aqsa Mosque is in danger, and the world must intervene before it’s too late, the Palestinian Information Centre has reported. Violations by the Israeli occupation authority and its settlers in Jerusalem and at the Sacred Mosque are a precursor to the spatial division of the mosque, it added.

The governorate said on Monday that the occupation state is tightening its grip on the Noble Sanctuary of Al-Aqsa and preventing access to Muslim worshippers, while providing full cover for illegal Jewish settlers to perform Talmudic rituals at the Islamic site. These practices, warned the governorate, are a prelude to imposing a new reality on the ground, paving the way for the spatial division of Al-Aqsa Mosque and Compound.

The governorate pointed out that the claims of some Israeli leaders, asserting that the occupying state is committed to the historical and legal status of Al-Aqsa, are nothing but lies and a smokescreen. It called upon the entire world to “be aware of the true intentions of the far-right Israeli government regarding our holy sites, especially Al-Aqsa.”

Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people includes killing, arrest, demolition, destruction, displacement, house arrest and racist persecution throughout the occupied territories, explained the governorate. “None of this will succeed in silencing the Palestinians or preventing them from defending their sacred sites and protecting Al-Aqsa.”

Pointing out the grave situation at Al-Aqsa and calling upon the international community to assume its responsibility for protecting Al-Aqsa and to end all assaults and crimes committed by the extremist Israeli government there, the governorate said that it holds the occupation government accountable for any and all repercussions in Jerusalem.

In closing, the Jerusalem Governorate saluted the Palestinian people in all provinces, cities and towns, especially those steadfast in the occupied capital, who are besieged and prevented by the occupation from accessing and praying at Al-Aqsa. “They defend it with all they have, with determination, steadfastness and resilience,” it said.
