The Israeli army announced this morning that it had killed a high-ranking commander of the Lebanese group Hezbollah in an airstrike on southern Beirut.
On Monday evening, they had announced plans for a “precise and guided” attack on the southern suburbs of Beirut.
In a statement, the Israeli army reported that they had killed Suhail Hussein Husseini, who was described as the head of Hezbollah’s logistics network and responsible for the transfer of weapons between the group and Iran.
They also stated that Husseini was a member of Hezbollah’s highest military body, known as the Jihad Council, reports Anadolu Agency.
Hezbollah has yet to comment on Israel’s claims.
To recap, Israel launched massive airstrikes across Lebanon since September 23, killing more than 1,250 people and injuring 3,618. Over 1.2 million people have been displaced.
Despite international warnings that the Middle East region is on the brink of a regional war due to Israel’s relentless attacks on Gaza and Lebanon, Tel Aviv expanded the conflict by launching a ground invasion of southern Lebanon on October 1.
