TEHRAN (Fars News Agency) Iran expects deliveries of natural gas from neighboring Turkmenistan to be restored by the end of the week, an Iranian official said on Tuesday.
Iranian officials said on Monday Turkmenistan had stopped daily exports of up to 23 million cubic meters of gas to Iran, blaming it on technical problems. It represents about 5 percent of Iran’s consumption.
“Our prediction is that, by the end of the week, gas exports from Turkmenistan to Iran would be restored,” said Ebadollah Ghanbari, who heads the public relations unit of the National Iranian Gas Company.
Ghanbari confirmed that Iran, as a result of the Turkmen supply cut, had reduced sales to Turkey without giving details.
Sources earlier said that Iran’s daily deliveries to Turkey had been reduced to about 4-5 million cubic meters from 20 million.
“We have had some decrease in the export of gas to Turkey. After we pass the current situation and the stabilization of providing gas in the country, the issue of exports will automatically return to its regular routine,” Ghanbari said.
