Lebanese Hezbollah does not seek to escalate the conflict with Israel, but it is prepared to engage in any war imposed upon it, said Sheikh Naim Kasem, the deputy leader of Hezbollah, to the Al-Jazeera TV station on Tuesday, as conflicts and hostilities continue along the Lebanese-Israeli border.
Hezbollah, supported by Iran, has been exchanging fire along the border with Israel for the past eight months, parallel to the war in Gaza.
The international community fears that a conflict of even broader proportions could erupt between the heavily armed adversaries.
The violence, which has been fluctuating for months, has escalated in recent days. Hezbollah announced on Tuesday that for the second consecutive day, it launched a squadron of drones at an Israeli military base, calling this move a response to a deadly Israeli attack on Lebanon.
Sheikh Kasem, the deputy leader of Hezbollah, stated to Al-Jazeera that the group’s intention is not to “expand the war” but to fight if conflict is imposed upon them.
This is the most severe conflict between Israel and Hezbollah since they entered into war in 2006, with tens of thousands of people on both sides of the border being forced to leave their homes, reported by Hina.
