Heads of three branches of govt. meet Rafsanjani

The heads of the legislative, executive, and judicial branches of government as well as members of the Assembly of Experts met with Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani at his office at the Assembly of Experts on Sunday night.

In the meeting, Rafsanjani pointed to the importance of culture in all societies and insisted on the need to withstand the Western cultural onslaught.

Pointing to an insistence by the Supreme Leader on “religious intellectualism” he said seminaries and scholars have a great responsibility to promote such thinking in society.

In regard to the concerns of the Assembly Experts members about cultural problems, he said the country’s general cultural policies are being drawn up at the Expediency Council which after the ratification and an affirmation by the Supreme Leader will ally many concerns in this regard.

Turning to the next month’s parliamentary elections, Rafsanjani praised the performance of the Guardian Council for approving the qualification of some candidates who were initially barred from contesting parliament seats by executive and supervisory committees.

“With this action the Guardian Council lessened likely tensions.”

Rafsanjani also urged the Guardian Council to approve more parliament hopefuls to fulfill its mission completely.

In the meeting which was mainly focused on promoting Islamic culture and educating the society the president praised the construction of many schools and universities across the country since the Islamic Revolution in 1979.

In a short speech Majlis speaker Gholam-Ali Haddad-Adel also said one of the main honors of the sitting parliament was to allocate funds for seminaries and religious centers with the aim of promoting Islamic culture in the society.
