Serbia condemns Kosovo’s decision to block imports

Belgrade politicians say that they expect the EU to force Kosovo to cancel a decision blocking imports of goods from Serbia.

Serbia has condemned Kosovo’s decision to block imports of goods with Serbian custom stamps as a provocation, saying it will negatively impact on the current EU-moderated dialogue.

Serbia’s President, Boris Tadic, said: “This is a provocation for Serbia. We won’t react, as we don’t react to any other provocation, because we need a stable situation in the region,” Tadic said, adding that the EU foreign policy, Chief Catherine Ashton, had assured him that Brussels would not support Kosovo’s decision.

Tadic said the decision might well have a damaging effect on dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina, but expressed hopes that “the negotiating process will not be completely disrupted”.
