Tunisian president calls on all parties to leave their differences aside during Eid El Fitr break

Tunisia’s President Moncef Marzouki invited the Tunisian people as well as political parties and components of civil society to “leave their differences aside” during the 3-day Eid break, in a televised message on the occasion of Eid El Fitr on Wednesday night.

Marzouki’s message came as the country is facing one of its most serious political crises, in addition to waging a bloody war on terror on its western border with Algeria.

Nearly 20 military personnel have lost their lives during the last six months in the ongoing crackdown on al-Qaida operatives hiding in the rugged terrains of Mountain Chaambi.

The political crisis has left Tunisians more divided than ever, with hundreds of thousands calling for the Ennahdha-led government ‘s resignation and the dissolution of the Constitutional Assembly, while others still back the government’s “legitimacy.”
