Legislative official Rules out Talks with US

A prominent Iranian MP here today showed strong opposition to negotiations with the US, saying that attending talks with the US is meaningless under the current conditions, when Iranian diplomats have been kidnapped and tortured by the US troops in Iraq. “Considering the stances adopted by the US administration on Iran, there is no proper ground available for paying visits and attending negotiations,” Chairman of the Iranian parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Alaoddin Boroujerdi said in response to questions about likelihood of parliamentary talks between Iranian and US MPs.

“The United States has raided our consulate in the Iraqi city of Erbil and kidnapped our diplomats and kept them in captivity ever since. It also violated the international rules and regulations of the Vienna Convention and abducted and tortured the Iranian diplomat, Mr. Jalal Sharafi,” he continued.

“Therefore, a visit to Iran by a US official and attending talks would have no meaning under the present conditions,” the legislative official concluded.
