EU expands sanctions on Syrian regime

The EU Foreign Affairs Council meeting in Brussels Tuesday decided to add three additional Syrian persons and nine entities to its blacklist in view of the gravity of the situation in Syria.

The Council in a statement said Syrian regime officials are involved “in the violent repression of the civilian population or their support to the regime. They will be subject to an asset freeze and a ban from entering the EU.”

Today’s decision brings the total of Syrian persons under EU restrictions to 192 and the number of entities to 62.

The names of the new designated persons, will be published in tomorrow’s EU Official Journal and will enter into force at the same time.
