Algeria condemns attack on MINUSMA in Kidal

Algeria has condemned in “the strongest terms” the attack on Wednesday in the region of Kidal, Mali, on the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Missionin Mali (MINUSMA), which claimed the lives of five Chadian blue helmets, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Abdelaziz Benali Cherif told APS Thursday.
“We condemn in the strongest terms the new terrorist attack that targeted, once again, peacekeepers in Mali, killing five Chadian blue helmets,” said the Foreign Ministry’s spokesperson.
“This cowardly ambush will not affect the commitment of all those involved in the national reconciliation process and the implementation of the peace and Reconciliation Agreement in Mali, to moving towards stabilization throughout Mali, and to achieving our objectives of stability, security, prosperity and harmonious coexistence between all the components of the Malian society,” said Benali-Cherif.
The Foreign Ministry’s spokesperson also offered Algeria’s condolences to the families of the victims and to the government of Chad, as well as to the members of MINUSMA, reassuring them of its solidarity.
“We reiterate our commitment to working, as the chair of the Monitoring Committee on Peace and Reconciliation Agreement in Mali, to ensure the rapid and effective implementation of all its provisions in order to enable Mali to enter a new stage in building peace and necessary conditions for development and progress,” he concluded.
