EU welcomes Algeria's role in peace process in Mali

imgThe European Union (EU) on Monday hailed the “crucial” role played by Algeria as leader of the international mediation team for the conclusion of the Peace and Reconciliation Accord in Mali and its effective implementation.
“The EU hailed the “crucial” role played by Algeria in the peace process in Mali,” said the foreign ministers of the EU 28 member states in their conclusions on the Sahel adopted following their council meeting in Luxembourg.
A year after the signing on 20 June 2015 of the Peace and Reconciliation Accord in Mali, resulted from Algiers Process, the signatories parties on Sunday in Bamako signed, under the supervision of Algiers, a Document of Understanding on the installation of interim authorities in northern Mali.
After being postponed twice, the ninth ordinary session of Accord Follow-up Committee met on 13 and 14 June.
The three parties agreed on the practical modalities of the establishment of authorities in northern Mali. The installation of the authorities is scheduled from 15 July to 25 August and the redeployment of state services from 15 July to 15 August.
