Iran, Switzerland Expand Cooperation on Urban Issues

Tehran and Bern on Thursday voiced preparedness to expand cooperation on urban issues. The agreement was raised during a meeting between Tehran’s visiting Mayor Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf and Swiss Vice President Pascal Couchepin, where Qalibaf voiced pleasure in the consolidation of the two countries’ good ties.

Reminding that Switzerland is one of the pioneering world countries in area of city environment, he stated enthusiasm for the two countries’ cooperation on urban development, management and recycling of waste materials and city environment.

The mayor of Tehran also voiced Iran’s readiness to cooperate with Switzerland in grounds of cultural development, and further briefed the Swiss official about municipality and city council elections in Iran and wide public participation in the said elections.

For his part, Switzerland’s vice president pointed to the two countries’ developing ties, and described Iran as a country with a several-thousand-year-old and strong civilization.

He also stressed that the Swiss government is keen to develop political, economic and cultural exchanges with Iran.

Couchepin noted the Iranian people’s resolve during the 8 years of Iraq’s imposed war on Iran, and wished success, welfare and development for the Iranian nation.
