Large Gas Field Discovered in Central Iran

A03264551.jpgIranian Oil Ministry caretaker Gholam Hossein Nozari said that there are indications of a large gas field in the area surrounding Sefid Zakhour, in Fars province. The official, who talked to reporters on the sidelines of the signing ceremony for South Pars (SP) field’s Phase XII pipe laying contract, added the new field would hold gas the equivalent of two phases of SP field once Sefid Zakhour reserves were calculated.

The contract was inked by managing directors of Petropars Company and Iranian Offshore Engineering and Construction Company (IOEC), Gholamreza Manouchehri and Masoud Soltanpour.

He referred to the explored section of Sefid Zakhour field with 11.2 trln cubic feet of in situ gas as an invaluable asset and added mass media and the press would provide extensive coverage to the discovery of such a huge field in any spot of the world.

“National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) has been urged to present a plan on the development of the field as soon as possible,” Nozari added.

Meanwhile, OPEC’s second largest oil producer said on Saturday it does not foresee any change in organization’s output ceiling being decided on at the September 11 meeting in Vienna.

“It seems that the current OPEC production is enough and that at the next meeting the current ceiling will be maintained,” ISNA quoted Nozari as saying.
