Turkey to continue efforts for PKK to leave country

Turkey will continue its efforts for PKK militants’ leaving the country’s territory, Deputy Prime Minister Beshir Atalay said.

According to him, the militants’ leaving the country is currently the priority for Ankara.

According to the Turkish Deputy Prime Minister Bulent Arinch, nearly 2,000 militants of the terrorist Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) were in Turkey and some 20 per cent of them have already left the country’s territory.

Previously, imprisoned PKK leader Abdullah Ocalan urged members of the organization to lay down their arms and leave Turkey.

Turkish authorities promised to create conditions for a safe withdrawal of all PKK militants who surrendered.

PKK militants began to leave Turkey on May 8.
